2025 marks The Great Gatsby's 100th birthday!
Long Island is the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. The novel is set specifically on the North Shore, also known as the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast was a haven for the wealthy and they built large mansions on impressive estates. The fictional towns of West Egg and East Egg, where the main characters reside, are loosely based on real-life towns like Great Neck and Port Washington. F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in Great Neck for a time and was likely influenced by the mansions and lifestyle he witnessed while residing here on Long Island.
Riding through Manhasset Bay and Long Island Sound to visit the very real places that influenced F. Scott Fitzgerald. From Port Washington, you'll comfortably cruise to the Long Island locations of East Egg and West Egg. Experience the vibrant beauty of New York like never before with two spectacular hours on the water.
Enjoy Gatsby Hour in the OHK bar at Oheka from 4pm-7pm Monday to Thursday with bar bites and specials on drinks.
Head to Broadway and see the new Broadway production of The Great Gatsby. The party's roaring on Broadway! THE GREAT GATSBY is a "great, big Broadway extravaganza that explodes with life and energy."
Enjoy a Gold Coast triathlon supported by Northwell Orthopedics and the Town of North Hempstead.
Experience the Art Deco exhibition while also enjoying the Roslyn mansion previously home to the Frick Family. The exhibition will link the period's signature innovation in the decorative arts, Art Deco, to the fine arts. It encompasses significant cultural advancements during Long Island's Roaring Twenties/Jazz Age movement, including the vote, jobs, and the automobile for women, the beginnings of suburbia with commutation for work, and planned residential communities, which all defined the era, while the following decade brought economic reversals and the WPA program.
